Donoratico

The village of Donoratico, being of relatively recent constitution, represents the most modern and inhabited locality of the Municipality of Castagneto Carducci and has no historical-architectural attractions.

Despite this, the origin of its name is very ancient: in fact already in the Middle Ages there was an imposing castle in these lands which had the name of “Castello di Donoratico”; of it still survive some ruins of the walls and of the tower, which dominates the countryside below from the top of a hill.

At about three hundred meters, hidden by the bush, the “holes of the Saracines” make a fine show of themselves, splendid Etruscan tombs carved into the rock and still preserved intact in their original structure. The tower is accessible to all, unlike the Etruscan tombs because they are located in a fenced wood of private property.
